Tremron Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a Tremron roof or are planning one, the part you’ll most likely need matched is the roof tile or shake itself, along with the underlayment and flashing that sit beneath it. We match, source, and install Tremron-compatible roofing across Los Angeles, and most repairs on a Tremron tile or shake roof run $710 – $2,950 depending on how many tiles failed and what the underlayment looks like once we lift the old piece. You’ll typically notice the problem as a cracked tile after a Santa Ana wind event, or a damp spot on the ceiling after a heavy winter rain.

We’re an independent remodeling and roofing contractor, not a Tremron dealer, which means we can be honest about whether a repair makes sense or a replacement is the better long-term call. And we’ll give you that number in writing before any work starts.

Which Tremron Models This Applies To

Tremron’s product line runs from concrete roof tile in flat, low-profile, and high-profile barrel shapes, through to interlocking shake and slate profiles. The two most common in Los Angeles neighborhoods are the flat concrete tile (often found on 1960s – 1980s ranch homes in the Valley) and the high-profile barrel tile (the classic Spanish look you see across Hancock Park, Pasadena, and the Westside).

The compatibility gotcha: Tremron tiles are not universal. The interlocking pattern, the nail-hole spacing, and the tile’s underside profile all changed across production years. A tile that looks right from the ground can sit proud or refuse to seat if it’s from a different series, and that creates a leak path behind it. We identify the tile by flipping an existing piece and checking the back for the Tremron stamp, then measuring the exposed width and the head lap, the overlap where one tile locks under the next. If the stamped markings have worn off (which happens after 30+ years of LA sun), we match by dimension and profile against current Tremron production and known discontinued lines.

On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question: for Tremron tile, we always recommend OEM or a Tremron-licensed equivalent. Aftermarket concrete tile from a no-name foundry is a gamble. Slight differences in the mix change how the tile handles LA’s thermal swing, hot days and cool coastal nights, and a mismatched tile can spall or crack within a couple of years. It’s not worth saving $2 a tile for a part that has to sit on your roof for another two decades. The brands we also source parts for on other jobs, KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, matter less here, because roofing is its own world.

Signs Your Tremron Roofing Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks running across the tile face. Concrete tile expands and contracts with heat, and old mortar or a nailed-down tile with no room to move will eventually crack. One cracked tile is usually repairable; cracks across 30% or more of the roof mean the tile is reaching the end of its service life.
  • Tile edge spalling, the surface flaking off in thin sheets. Concrete tile in Los Angeles absorbs moisture during winter rains, then bakes in summer sun. Repeated cycles cause the surface to delaminate. Spalled tile is compromised tile; it won’t stop water the way it should.
  • A damp patch or water stain on the ceiling after rain. The tile rarely leaks from a cracked surface alone. What usually fails is the underlayment, the waterproof barrier beneath the tile. We removed one tile in Silver Lake last year, and the underlayment underneath had turned to what looked like dried paper. The tile above it looked perfectly fine.
  • Tiles that sound hollow when tapped or shift underfoot. A properly installed tile is nailed or clipped and doesn’t move. A loose tile is a sign the fastening failed, and loose tiles become wind-driven projectiles during Santa Ana events.
  • Visible nails or fasteners rusting through the tile. Coastal air within five miles of the Pacific carries salt. Galvanized fasteners corrode over time, and a rusting nail can crack the tile around it from the inside out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

In Los Angeles, expect to pay $710 – $2,950 for a Tremron tile roof repair that includes matching and replacing failed tiles, replacing damaged underlayment beneath them, and resealing surrounding flashing. The range exists because the real cost driver is what we find under the first tile we lift. If the underlayment is intact, we swap the broken tile, reseat the surrounding courses, and you’re done for the low end of that range. If the underlayment has failed across a large area, we open the section, replace the barrier, and relay the tile.

What’s included: the matched tile or shake, the underlayment and fasteners we install, disposal of the failed material, and a written warranty on the repair. We do not hand you a verbal estimate; we hand you a written price before work starts, and that price is what you pay on the invoice. If the repair fails within our 365-day Done Right Promise window, we come back and make it right at no charge.

If the tile is too far gone and the underlayment has failed broadly, a full roof replacement in Los Angeles runs $9,440 – $23,600 depending on roof size, pitch, and whether we replace the underlayment with a modern synthetic barrier.

DIY or Call Us?

A roof is not a place to learn by doing. Concrete tile is heavy, it’s brittle, and the consequences of a misstep are a fall from height and a leak you won’t discover until the next rain. That’s not a scare tactic, it’s the honest math. What you can safely do from the ground: look for cracked tiles, check gutters for accumulated tile grit, and scan the ceiling inside for stains after rain. That’s useful information to give us over the phone.

What goes wrong with DIY roof tile repair is the same thing that goes wrong with DIY anything that sits between your house and the sky. The repair looks fine for six weeks, then the winter storm arrives. If you’ve found a cracked Tremron tile, call us at (213) 277-6578 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and you’ll get a written number you can hold us to.
