Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Quikrete driveway and paver work in Los Angeles typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 for a full paver driveway installation, and we can match your existing Quikrete product line so the repair blends instead of looking patched. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover they need us when a section of pavers sinks after winter rain, a concrete edge crumbles along the driveway apron, or a Quikrete paver patio starts shifting away from the house. We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with Quikrete, but we work with their product lines regularly and know which Quikrete paver styles and concrete mixes hold up in our climate and which ones fight you.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete’s driveway and paver lineup breaks into three buckets that matter for repair work. First, bagged concrete mixes like Quikrete 5000 and Crack-Resistant Concrete for driveway slabs, walkways, and aprons. Second, Quikrete’s paver line, including the concrete paver stones sold through their WalkMaker molds and their pre-formed paver products for patios and walkways. Third, Quikrete’s resurfacer and repair products, like their Concrete Resurfacer and FastSet Repair Mortar, which we use for edge repairs and small spalls instead of ripping out a whole slab.
The compatibility gotcha with Quikrete pavers: the color and texture of their paver lines have shifted over the years. A paver bought in 2018 from the same Quikrete product label often won’t match a paver bought today, because Quikrete has changed suppliers and pigment blends. We keep that in mind when we quote a repair. Sometimes the right call is replacing the damaged section with a close match and sealing the whole surface so the difference fades. Sometimes the right call is re-laying what you have and adding new Quikrete paver base underneath, because the pavers themselves are fine and the real problem is the substrate (the compacted gravel and sand layer under the pavers that carries the weight).
For driveway slabs, the OEM-versus-aftermarket question matters less with Quikrete than with a brand like KraftMaid or Cambria, since Quikrete is a mix, not a finished component. What matters is the mix spec. For driveway work in Los Angeles, we specify Quikrete 5000 or equivalent for vehicle loads, with proper control joints cut every 8 to 12 feet. If someone poured your original driveway with Quikrete’s general-purpose mix at 4,000 PSI, that’s part of why it’s cracking along the tire paths.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sinking or rocking pavers underfoot. The Quikrete pavers themselves usually aren’t the problem. The base underneath has washed out or wasn’t compacted properly, which is the most common failure we see in Los Angeles after a wet winter.
- Hairline cracks spreading across a concrete driveway slab. If you see cracks following a pattern and widening at the edges, the slab is moving. In Los Angeles, that’s usually expansive clay soil swelling after rain, then shrinking in the summer heat.
- Crumbling edges along the driveway apron or step edges. This is spalling, and it’s often from water pooling or freeze-thaw cycles in the San Fernando Valley’s colder spots. Once the edge goes, it keeps going.
- White, chalky powder on the concrete surface. That’s efflorescence, mineral salts being pushed out of the slab. It’s cosmetic but the underlying moisture problem usually isn’t, and the fix is more than washing the surface.
- Standing water that sits for a day after rain. Your driveway or paver patio isn’t shedding water. Over time, that pooled water works into the substrate and accelerates everything else on this list.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full Quikrete paver driveway installation typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, access for equipment, and whether the old slab needs demolition and haul-off. A concrete driveway install with Quikrete 5000 runs $5,310 – $14,160, and a full driveway replacement runs $5,900 – $16,520. If the repair is smaller, like re-laying a sunken section of Quikrete pavers or patching a spalled edge with Quikrete repair mortar, you’re usually looking at a fraction of the full-install price, in the range of a few hundred to a few thousand depending on access and linear footage.
What drives the price up or down: how much old concrete has to come out, whether the base under your pavers needs re-compacting or replacing, whether the city of Los Angeles requires a permit for your curb cut or apron work, and how far the crew has to wheel material from the truck. Every quote we give at Penhallow Remodeling Los Angeles includes a written price before work starts, a defined arrival window, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing on every job, and it applies to the part and the labor alike.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe version of DIY here and a version that goes wrong. You can safely hose down the surface, note where water pools after rain, and mark cracking pavers with chalk so you can watch whether the crack is growing. What we don’t recommend is pulling up Quikrete pavers yourself and re-laying them. The reason most DIY paver repairs fail is that the homeowner levels the pavers but never fixes the base underneath, so the same sink comes back in six months. Same rule applies to mixing Quikrete repair mortar for a cracked slab: if the slab is still moving underneath, the patch is a band-aid on a broken bone.
Trevor Nash grew up in the Crenshaw district watching his uncle patch drywall and re-frame doorways, and his rule on driveways and pavers is the same one he applies to kitchens and bathrooms: give you a number first, then pick up the tools. If you’re in Los Angeles and your Quikrete driveway or pavers are failing, call (213) 277-6578. We’ll look at the base, not just the surface, and give you a written price before anything gets dug up.
FAQs

A properly installed Quikrete paver driveway with a compacted base typically lasts 20 to 30 years in Los Angeles, while a Quikrete concrete slab driveway lasts 20 to 25 years with proper joints and sealing. Los Angeles soil movement and summer heat shorten that lifespan if the base was skimped on during the original install. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your driveway is at year 5 or year 25 of its useful life.
Yes, in most Los Angeles cases the pavers themselves can be lifted, the base re-compacted, and the same Quikrete pavers re-laid for a fraction of replacement cost. The exception is when a matching paver is broken or the paver line has been discontinued and the color can’t be matched closely enough. Call (213) 277-6578 for an honest read on whether your pavers are salvageable, estimates are free.
A section re-level and re-lay of Quikrete pavers usually takes one to two days depending on access and square footage, while a full concrete driveway replacement runs three to five days including demolition, form work, pour, and joint cutting. We give you a defined arrival window and a written timeline with your written price, so day one looks like what we said it would.
We stock Quikrete 5000, Crack-Resistant mix, paver sand, gravel base, and repair mortar as standard on our Los Angeles trucks, and we source specific Quikrete paver styles from local suppliers when a match is required. We’ll tell you before the job starts whether your specific Quikrete product line is on hand or needs a day to source. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll check availability while you’re on the phone.
