Moen Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We install Moen fencing systems and related hardware across Los Angeles, with most jobs running $4,130 – $10,620 installed and scheduled within a week of the estimate. The number lands where it does because of linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re pulling through hardpan or cutting into an existing concrete pad. Most homeowners find us the day a gate post finally leans hard enough to bind the latch, or when the winds off the foothills turn a wobbling run of panels into something that creaks all night.
We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Moen, but we’ve installed enough of their fence systems across the Basin to know what holds up and what gives way first. Trevor Nash grew up in the Crenshaw district and has spent his whole working life on residential jobs around this city, so he’s seen exactly what Southern California sun and soil do to every brand of fence hardware, including Moen’s.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen doesn’t brand complete fence panel lines the way they brand faucets, so when Los Angeles homeowners say “Moen fence,” they’re almost always talking about Moen gate hardware, post brackets, or their outdoor living collection that ties into a fence run. The compatibility issue is real: Moen’s gate hinge kits are sized to specific post dimensions, and the latch geometry changes between product generations.
Before you call us, look at the hinge body or the interior face of the latch. There should be a stamped model code starting with a letter followed by four digits, often something in the MFH or MGL series. If the stamp is worn off, measure the post face width and the setback from post edge to hinge barrel. That measurement tells us which Moen generation you have and whether an OEM replacement from Moen or a quality aftermarket equivalent from a trade brand makes more sense. On a part that lives outside in salt air near the coast or under eucalyptus sap in the foothills, we’ll usually recommend an OEM replacement for the moving parts and aftermarket for the static brackets, since the cost difference is real and the wear difference isn’t.
One thing worth knowing: Moen has changed their gate hinge screw patterns twice in the last decade. An older Moen post bracket won’t line up with the newer hinge plates. We keep a handful of adapter plates on the truck for exactly that reason, so a gate swap doesn’t turn into a post replacement job unless the post actually needs it.

Signs Your Moen Fence Installation Is Failing
- The gate drags or binds on one side. Usually the post bearing has worn or the hinge plate has started to pull away from the post face. Los Angeles heat cycles expand and contract the hardware enough that fasteners loosen over a few summers, and once they loosen, the gate starts hanging off the hardware instead of on it.
- The latch won’t stay closed in the wind. Santa Ana winds find a tired Moen latch fast. The internal spring is typically the first thing to wear out, and it’s the cheapest part to replace if you catch it before the catch plate gets wallowed out from the gate slamming against it.
- You can see daylight between the post bracket and the post. This means screws have pulled loose from the post or the post itself has started to rot at the fastener holes. Either way, the fix is more than a hardware swap.
- The gate post rocks when you press on it. That’s a footing issue, not a hardware issue. In a lot of Los Angeles neighborhoods with older homes, gate posts were set in a thin concrete collar instead of a proper pier, and after enough seasons of wet winters and dry summers, the collar cracks and lets the post move.
- Hardware shows white corrosion powder. That’s galvanic corrosion, usually where a coated steel screw sits in an aluminum or zinc hinge body. We see it most often within a mile or two of the coast, where the marine layer keeps the hardware slightly damp through the night.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a complete Moen fence hardware swap plus installation runs $4,130 – $10,620 depending on the length of the fence run, the number of gates, and what we find when the hardware comes off. A straightforward gate hinge and latch replacement on a single gate will sit at the low end. A full post and hardware rebuild along a long property line with two gates, rotted post footings, and a section of panels that need to come down and go back up will push toward the top of that range.
Every quote is written before any work starts. You’ll see the parts cost, the labor, and the disposal line item separately, and the number on the written estimate is the number you’ll pay unless we both agree in writing to add something after we open things up. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything we touched fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, with no service call and no re-inspection fee. That guarantee is written on every job, not mentioned in passing.

If your Moen gate binds or the latch won’t catch, you can safely check the obvious: are the hinge screws tight, and is the post itself still solid? Tightening a loose screw with a hand driver is fine, and so is adjusting a strike plate with a screwdriver. That’s not where people get hurt.
Where we’d tell you to stop is anything involving pulling a post out of the ground, cutting into concrete, or messing with a gate under tension. A heavy gate hanging on loosened hardware can shear a bracket and swing hard, and a failed gate spring has enough stored tension to take a finger off if it lets go while your hand is in the mechanism. Moen’s gate springs and self-closing hinges qualify as high-tension parts. If you’re at the point of disassembling one, call us instead. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician who has done it a hundred times, and we’ll hand you a written price before the first tool comes off the truck.
That’s the way I like to work, by the way: give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
FAQs

You can generally expect 8 to 12 years out of Moen gate hardware in Los Angeles before the hinge bearings and latch springs start to fail, though coastal homes near the water in places like Venice or San Pedro often see corrosion cut that lifespan to 6 to 8 years. Inland Valley homes with hard water in the soil sometimes see longer life on the hardware but faster rot on untreated wooden posts.
The latch’s internal spring and the hinge bearing are both repairable, and doing so runs a few hundred dollars in parts rather than a full hardware swap. But if the fastener holes in the post are enlarged or the bracket itself is corroded through, patching hardware onto a failing post just means you’ll be buying another repair in eighteen months. Call us at (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you honestly which side of that line you’re on.
Most single-gate hinge and latch replacements take one technician about half a day. A full fence run with multiple gates and post work usually runs two to three days, depending on how much concrete and excavation is involved and what Los Angeles permitting office in your area requires for post footings.
Our Los Angeles trucks carry common Moen gate hinge and latch sets, along with the adapter plates needed for the older screw patterns. If your exact model isn’t on the truck, we can typically have the OEM part in hand within two to three business days from our trade supplier, faster if it’s a current-production part available locally.
