Master Halco Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Master Halco-compatible bathroom remodeling components across Los Angeles, with installed replacements typically running $10,620 to $33,040 depending on scope, materials, and what’s behind your existing walls. Most owners discover a failed Master Halco part the same way: water staining on the ceiling below the bathroom, tile that’s started to flex, or a shower pan that suddenly drains slower than it used to. When that happens, the fix usually isn’t a caulk touch-up. It’s pulling the affected section apart to see what the moisture did underneath.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Master Halco dealer or affiliate. That matters because our job is to match the part you had with the right replacement for how your bathroom was actually built, not to sell you a specific product line.
Which Master Halco Models This Applies To

Master Halco’s bathroom-related product lines include shower pan liners, PVC and CPE waterproofing membranes, drainage assemblies, and structural substrates used beneath tile and stone. The compatibility gotcha we see most often in Los Angeles: Master Halco CPE membranes and PVC membranes are not interchangeable without adjusting the clamping drain assembly. CPE is thicker and more flexible than PVC, which affects how the membrane folds at corners and seats against the drain flange. If a previous installer used a CPE liner with a drain collar sized for PVC, the seal at the drain was compromised from day one.
To identify what you have, look for the marking printed along the membrane edge or the top of the drain flange. CPE reads as a gray or black flexible sheet, typically 40 mil. PVC is thinner, often blue or gray, around 30 to 40 mil. The drain assembly matters too. Oatey, Sioux Chief, and Zurn clamping drains are common in Los Angeles bathrooms, and each seats differently against the membrane. For OEM versus aftermarket: a quality aftermarket membrane from Passaic or Oatey is functionally identical to Master Halco’s line for most residential applications, and we default to whatever the existing drain and substrate call for. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products when the remodel expands beyond the part itself.

Signs Your Master Halco Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Water stains on the ceiling below the bathroom. This almost always means the shower pan liner or membrane has been compromised and water is traveling through the subfloor. By the time the stain shows, the leak has been active for weeks or longer.
- Tile flexing or grout cracking along the shower floor perimeter. The substrate, the moisture-resistant layer beneath the tile, is likely waterlogged. Los Angeles hard water accelerates this by depositing minerals that prevent the substrate from drying between uses.
- Peeling paint or bubbling drywall on walls adjacent to the shower. Vapor is getting past the waterproofing layer and into the stud cavities. In coastal Los Angeles neighborhoods like Venice or Playa del Rey, the ambient humidity makes this failure mode worse than inland.
- A persistent musty or sour smell near the shower. Mold is growing inside the substrate or behind the tile. Bleaching the surface won’t reach it. The affected section needs to come out.
- Slow draining that snaking doesn’t fix. This often points to a failed drain assembly seal rather than a clog. Water that can’t pass cleanly through the flange sits at the membrane, and any gap there becomes a leak point.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Master Halco-compatible bathroom remodel in Los Angeles, installed pricing typically runs $10,620 to $33,040. At the lower end, you’re looking at a shower pan liner replacement, new drain assembly, and retiling the shower floor. At the upper end, it’s a full bathroom gut: new waterproofing throughout, new substrate, new tile, new fixtures, and often a new vanity or countertop.
What drives the range: shower size, whether we’re redoing walls as well as the floor, tile type, whether the subfloor needs replacement, and whether your home is on a raised foundation or concrete slab. We give you a written price before any work starts. That number includes parts, labor, and haul-away, and it’s the number on the invoice. If something fails inside the 365-Day Done Right Promise window, we come back and fix it at no charge. Every job gets that guarantee in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: identify the symptoms, take photos, check for a visible membrane or drain marking, and clear away anything sitting against the shower area so you can see the extent of the damage. What you should not do: start demoing tile around the drain yourself. The shower pan and drain assembly create a continuous waterproof envelope, and pulling up even a few tiles can release water that’s been trapped in the substrate, turning a contained repair into a full-floor replacement. If your bathroom was built before 2010 in Los Angeles, there’s also a real chance the subfloor contains material that predates current moisture-resistant standards, and you won’t know until the tile is up.

FAQs

A properly installed PVC or CPE shower pan liner in a Los Angeles bathroom typically lasts 15 to 25 years, but our hard water and the area’s temperature swings shorten that for liners that weren’t sloped correctly at installation. Call (213) 277-6578 for an exact quote on your situation, and the estimate is free.
No reliable repair exists for a failed membrane, because the leak point is rarely the only damage and patching one section of a waterproofing layer leaves every seam around it as the next failure point. We recommend replacing the affected area completely, and we’ll write that scope and price down before we start.
A shower pan liner and drain assembly replacement in Los Angeles takes three to five working days depending on whether walls are involved. A full bathroom gut with new waterproofing and tile typically runs one to two weeks from demo to grout seal, and we’ll give you a defined arrival window before we start.
We stock common membrane materials, drain assemblies, and substrate products in our Los Angeles inventory and can source Master Halco-compatible and OEM-equivalent components quickly if your project calls for something specific. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you what we have before you ever schedule a visit.
