Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose KraftMaid Construction

We provide independent KraftMaid cabinet installation, refacing, and repair service in Los Angeles, and we’ve been doing it long enough to know exactly which lines hold up and which ones need attention five years in. We’re not authorized by KraftMaid, and we don’t pretend to be – we’ve torn down and rebuilt enough KraftMaid kitchens in Los Angeles to know which cabinet lines hold up to coastal humidity and which fail, and we spec materials accordingly. That independence means we tell you the truth about your cabinets, even when the truth is that a competing product would’ve been the better original choice. Call (213) 277-6578 for a written estimate before any work starts.

Our team works on Vantage, Benton, Durham, and Breckenridge series cabinets every month. We know the hinge cups that strip, the drawer boxes that separate, and the end-panel gaps that collect a particular blend of dust and cooking oil you only find in an LA kitchen. That’s the difference between a General Contractor who installs cabinets and a crew that actually understands the product line they’re working on.

Why Trust Penhallow Remodeling Los Angeles for Your KraftMaid Construction?

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

Trevor Nash started Penhallow Remodeling after spending the better part of two decades working residential and light commercial jobs across the Basin. He grew up in the Crenshaw district watching his uncle patch drywall and re-frame doorways in the bungalows nearby, studied construction technology at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and still lives a few miles from where he grew up. He’s seen KraftMaid kitchens installed well, installed poorly, and installed by people who clearly had never read the manufacturer’s spec sheet. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.

Our technicians are background-checked and arrive in uniform, so you know exactly who’s walking into your home. Every KraftMaid job gets a written price before work starts, and every job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. In writing, on every project. We stock KraftMaid-compatible hinges, drawer slides, and touch-up kits locally for fast turnaround, and we know which components the factory still supports and which ones you’re better off replacing with quality aftermarket parts.

Common KraftMaid Construction Problems We Fix in Los Angeles

  • Thermofoil door peeling on Vantage Series cabinets. The Vantage line uses thermofoil-wrapped doors, and LA’s specific combination of dry heat, steam from cooking, and moisture cycles causes the film to delaminate from the MDF core, usually within 3 to 5 years. Once peeling starts, it spreads. We replace the doors or reface the entire run depending on how far the damage has gone.
  • Soft-close hinge failure on Benton Series base cabinets. The hinge cups on Benton bases mount into particleboard sides, and under daily use the screws strip and the cup pulls out. You’ll notice the door sagging or the soft-close mechanism no longer catching. We repair with threaded inserts or replace the hinge with a stronger Blum-style unit.
  • Drawer box corner separation on Durham Series drawers. Older Durham drawers were built with stapled corner joints, and years of granite countertop weight plus normal opening and closing causes the corners to split. The drawer starts racking, then binds. We rebuild with plywood aftermarket boxes and dovetail or dowel joinery, which outlasts the original construction.
  • End-panel alignment gaps that collect grime. When original installers didn’t shim cabinets to the slab or got the reveal spacing wrong, you end up with uneven gaps between panels and doors. In Los Angeles, those gaps fill with a sticky mix of fine dust and cooking oil. It’s cosmetic at first, but over time the panel can warp. We re-align, re-shim, and reset the panels so the reveals are consistent.
  • Thermofoil delamination near dishwashers and steam sources. Vantage cabinets installed adjacent to dishwashers show heat damage faster than any other spot in the kitchen. The vent steam softens the thermofoil adhesive at the bottom edge of the adjacent cabinet, and the film peels. We replace affected doors and add a heat shield behind the dishwasher opening during reinstallation.

KraftMaid Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

When a KraftMaid cabinet fails, the first question is whether the factory still makes the part. KraftMaid supports current production lines with genuine replacement doors, drawer fronts, and hardware, and for warranty and fit on newer series like Breckenridge, we prefer those OEM components. For discontinued or heavily worn boxes, we use better-quality plywood aftermarket parts and stronger Blum-style hinges than what the original cabinet shipped with. The goal isn’t to match the original; it’s to outlast it.

Repair versus replace comes down to the box. If the cabinet sides and floor are solid, refacing plus replacing a few key boxes is often the smarter move than a full new build, and it costs significantly less. If the boxes are water-damaged or the particleboard is crumbling, we’ll tell you plainly that new cabinets are the honest answer. We don’t upsell. We give you the number for both options and let you decide. Call (213) 277-6578 for an exact quote.

One job stands out: our tech pulled a failing Benton island where the original installer had never shimmed the cabinet to the slab. Two drawers were binding, and a soft-close hinge had torn out of the side panel. We re-leveled the island on steel shims, replaced the hinge and drawer boxes with aftermarket plywood units, and reset the quartz top. That kitchen now opens and closes dead silent. That’s the difference between patching a symptom and fixing the cause.

Our KraftMaid Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the cabinets, identify the specific KraftMaid line and the failure mode, and check for underlying issues like improper shimming, slab movement, or moisture intrusion. We note which components are salvageable and which need replacement.
  2. 2
Written price. Before any work starts, you get a written line-item estimate. Not a range, not a ballpark. The number on day one is the number on the invoice.
  3. 3
Repair or install. We use KraftMaid OEM components where the factory still supports them, and quality aftermarket parts where the original hardware was the weak point. All work is done by background-checked, uniformed technicians.
  4. 4
Test and clean. Every door, drawer, and hinge is cycled and adjusted. We leave the job site cleaner than we found it.
  5. 5
365-Day Done Right Promise. Your work is guaranteed in writing for a full year. If something fails inside that window, we return and fix it at no charge.

KraftMaid Products We Service & Install in Los Angeles

Installers leveling a new base cabinet during a kitchen remodel

We install and service the full range of current KraftMaid cabinet lines, including Vantage, Benton, Durham, and Breckenridge series, in both framed and frameless construction. That covers base cabinets, wall cabinets, pantry units, islands, and peninsula configurations. We also source replacement doors, drawer fronts, hinges, slides, and trim to match the finish and profile of your existing install. For Kraftmaid in Santa Monica and throughout Los Angeles, we maintain relationships with local suppliers who can match stain colors and door profiles that the factory no longer catalogs.

Beyond cabinets, we pair KraftMaid installs with Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone countertops, plus Kohler and Moen fixtures, so the whole kitchen works as one system under one guarantee.

We Also Service These Brands

KraftMaid is one line we know well, but it’s not the only one. We install and service Cambria and Silestone quartz countertops, Kohler and Toto fixtures, and Wellborn cabinetry. If your kitchen combines several of these products, one crew can handle all of it under a single written price and a single 365-day guarantee.
