IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock IKO-compatible roofing materials and install them across Los Angeles, with typical shingle replacement work running $470 to $2,125 for repairs and $9,440 to $23,600 for a full roof replacement. Most IKO roof failures show up first as a water stain on the ceiling, granules collecting in the gutter, or a shingle flap you can see from the driveway after a Santa Ana wind event. The good news: matching IKO product lines is easier than most brands because their shingles and underlayment follow consistent color and profile codes that haven’t changed much over the last 15 years.
We’re an independent Los Angeles service provider, not affiliated with IKO itself. That matters because we can give you a straight answer about your roof without steering you toward one brand over another. If IKO is what your roof wears, IKO is what we match.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s dominant residential line in Los Angeles has been the Cambridge architectural shingle, available in the older “AR” and the newer “IR” (impact-rated) profiles. The Dynasty line, which IKO markets as a heavier, more wind-resistant shingle, is also common on higher-end Los Angeles homes, especially in hillside neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Mount Washington where wind exposure bumps up the spec. On garage roofs, flat patches, and low-slope additions, you’ll sometimes find the Nordic or Marathon shingle lines instead.
The compatibility gotcha with IKO is that Cambridge colors do not always carry over from the AR to the IR profile under the same name. A “Dual Black” AR shingle from 2015 is not a shade-perfect match for a Dual Black IR shingle made today. If you’re patching one small section, we’ll often harvest a few intact shingles from a less visible slope to make the patch disappear, then install fresh product in the harvested area. That’s the kind of thing a written, line-item quote should explain before anyone picks up a nail gun.
OEM versus aftermarket: IKO’s own accessory line (their underlayment, hip-and-ridge caps, and starter strips) carries the manufacturer’s warranty and is what we reach for first. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for underlayment and sealants, and in some cases we’ll recommend one because it outperforms the OEM spec in Los Angeles heat. We’ll tell you which is which and why before you spend a dollar.
Quick identification tip: lift a shingle tab on the north-facing slope and look at the underside. IKO prints the series name and manufacturing plant code along the back. If you can’t read it, we identify product on site by measuring the exposure, tab profile, and thickness, then match from IKO’s current and recent catalogs.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutters or downspout splash blocks. Los Angeles heat and UV load age IKO shingle surfaces faster than coastal climates. If you’re seeing a steady trickle of granules after rain, the protective ceramic coating is eroding and the asphalt beneath is starting to oxidize. That means the shingles are entering their last few years of service, even if they’re not leaking yet.
- Curling or cupping shingle tabs. This is the classic IKO symptom in flat, sunny Los Angeles neighborhoods like the Valley or Mid-City. The top of the shingle dries out faster than the bottom, the laminate pulls up at the corners, and wind can start working shingles loose.
- A ceiling stain that gets darker after a big rain. This means water has already penetrated the roof deck. In Los Angeles, the culprit is often failed flashing at a valley, pipe boot, or skylight curb, not the shingle field itself. Fixing the flashing is cheaper than replacing shingles, and doing it early keeps a $500 repair from turning into a $5,000 deck replacement.
- Wind-lifted or missing shingles after a Santa Ana event. IKO’s standard Cambridge shingles are rated for 110 mph winds with proper nailing. If your shingles are lifting at lower wind speeds, the issue is usually nail placement, aging sealant strips, or a previous install that skipped starter strip in the wrong spots.
- Visible asphalt “telegraphing” through worn shingle faces. When the top ceramic layer is gone, you’ll see dark gray or black patches where the asphalt shows through. That’s late-stage shingle failure. A roof in that condition will keep shedding granules and eventually crack through the mat.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, IKO roof repairs run $470 to $2,125 depending on the scope: a single shingle replacement with sealant at the low end, up to flashing rebuilds at the high end. A full IKO re-roof with Cambridge or Dynasty shingles runs $9,440 to $23,600, and the range comes down to roof complexity, pitch, deck condition, and whether you’re replacing underlayment, edge metal, and vents at the same time or just the shingle field.
What drives the number up in Los Angeles specifically? Access, mostly. Hillside roofs with steep pitches, limited staging areas, and city-required setback cages for debris add labor hours. Multi-story re-roofs cost more than a single-story ranch in the Valley. And any roof older than 20 years often needs deck repairs once the old shingles come off, which gets added to the price as a written change order before we spend it, not after.
Every IKO roof repair or replacement from us includes a written line-item price before work starts, and a written guarantee on the work. If a repair fails during the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge, no service call, no re-inspection fee. That’s the rule, not the exception.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect from the ground: walk the perimeter, look for lifted tabs, granule buildup, and discolored shingle edges. You should not climb a steep roof in Los Angeles without fall protection and you should not replace shingles on any roof with a pitch above 4/12 without someone on the crew who does it for a living. Falls from roofs produce some of the worst injuries we hear about, and the savings from a DIY shingle patch don’t come close to covering the risk.
Where DIY does pay: clearing debris from valleys and gutters, trimming branches that rub the shingle surface, and keeping an eye on the attic after heavy rain. If you see water, call us at (213) 277-6578. We’ll come out, tell you what’s actually wrong, and hand you a written number before we pick up the tools.
FAQs

IKO’s Cambridge and Dynasty shingles typically last 18 to 25 years in Los Angeles depending on sun exposure, roof pitch, and ventilation, with Valley and south-facing roofs aging faster than shaded hillside roofs. The biggest Los Angeles-specific killer is heat: sustained summer attic temperatures above 130°F shorten the shingle mat life and dry out sealant strips years early, which is why we always check attic ventilation when we’re on the roof. Call (213) 277-6578 if you’re seeing granules or curling tabs; we’ll tell you whether the roof has five years left or five months.
Most IKO roof damage can be repaired as long as the shingles are still flexible, the deck underneath is dry, and the failing area is not spread across multiple slopes. Repairs make sense for flashing failures, isolated wind damage, and patching a small section where a satellite dish came out; replacement makes sense once granule loss and curling spread across a full elevation. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you honestly which one you need.
A typical IKO shingle or flashing repair in Los Angeles takes half a day to a full day on site, depending on how much flashing must be cut out and rebuilt, and whether sealant needs cure time in hot weather. We schedule a real arrival window in writing, not a “sometime between 8 and 6” wave of the hand.
We keep the most common IKO Cambridge colors and hip-and-ridge caps stocked in our Los Angeles vehicles, along with matching sealants, starter strip, and underlayment. Less common Dynasty and Nordic colors get ordered the same day and arrive in our shop the next morning. If you need an exact match, call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you on the phone whether we have your shingle on the truck right now.
If your IKO roof is showing its age, call us at (213) 277-6578 and schedule a free estimate. We’ll look at the roof, tell you exactly what’s going on, and hand you a written price with the guarantee behind it before any work begins.
