GAF Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a GAF roof leaking, lifting, or showing granule loss, we can match the exact GAF shingle, underlayment, or accessory and install it right. Roof repair in Los Angeles typically runs $470 – $2,125, and roof replacement falls between $9,440 and $23,600, depending on the GAF product line and square footage. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a Santa Ana wind event, or granules piling up in the gutters after a heavy winter rain.
Trevor Nash grew up in the Crenshaw district watching his uncle re-frame doorways and patch drywall in the bungalows nearby. That’s where the habit of giving you a number first, then picking up the tools came from. If you’re holding a GAF warranty booklet or staring at a curling shingle, we’ll tell you plainly what it costs before we touch the roof.
Which GAF Models This Applies To

We work with the full GAF residential lineup: Timberline HDZ, Timberline UHDZ, Timberline NS, Royal Sovereign, and the higher-end Camelot II and Grand Canyon lines. Each uses a specific shingle width and exposure, so a Timberline NS shingle won’t match a Timberline HDZ lay-up. The quickest way to identify your shingle is the GAF label on the original wrapper or the manufacturing code printed on the back of a lifted shingle. If those are gone, we measure the shingle’s exposed face and thickness, then match it to the current GAF catalog.
One compatibility gotcha in Los Angeles: roofs installed before 2015 often used a 3-tab Royal Sovereign profile that GAF has since narrowed in availability. If your roof has that older profile, a straight patch may look visibly different from the surrounding field. In that case we’ll show you both options: a color-matched replacement using the current Sovereign stock, or a section overlay with a Timberline line that carries a better wind rating. OEM GAF parts are our default because the color blending and adhesive strip spec are exact. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but for shingles, the savings rarely justifies the mismatch risk on a Los Angeles roof that gets 280-plus days of sun.
We also stock GAF accessories: Deck-Armor and Tiger Paw underlayment, StormGuard leak barrier, and GAF ridge cap shingles. Those matter more than most people think. A failed ridge cap is the single most common leak point we see on 15-year-old roofs in LA, not the field shingles.

Signs Your GAF Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter or at the downspout elbow. This means the shingle’s ceramic coating is breaking down from UV exposure, which is aggressive in Los Angeles. Once granule loss starts, the asphalt beneath bakes and cracks within a season or two.
- Shingles curling at the corners or lifting along the edges. Culprits are usually trapped moisture, poor attic ventilation, or failing adhesive strips. Lifting shingles catch Santa Ana winds and tear away.
- Water staining on the ceiling or along the wall line. This is rarely where the leak actually is. Water travels along the underlayment before it finds a seam to drip through. We trace it back to the true source, usually a nail pop, a cracked pipe boot, or a failed ridge cap.
- Cracked shingles, especially on south-facing slopes. Los Angeles sun bakes the south and west exposures hardest. Hairline cracks spread quickly once they appear.
- Dark streaks or moss. On coastal or canyon-adjacent homes in areas like Silver Lake or Studio City, shade and moisture support algae and moss growth. It’s not just cosmetic; moss lifts shingles and holds water against the wood decking.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a targeted GAF repair in Los Angeles, you’re looking at $470 – $2,125, including the specific GAF shingles, underlayment patch if needed, ridge cap, sealants, and disposal. A full GAF roof replacement runs $9,440 – $23,600. What moves the number: square footage, number of roof planes, roof pitch, tear-off layers, and which GAF line you choose. A single-story 1,100-square-foot home in the Valley with a simple gable roof lands at the low end. A steep-cut 2,400-square-foot craftsman in Echo Park with dormers and two existing layers lands high.
The price we give you is a written number before any work begins. Not a range, not a verbal ballpark. That number includes parts, labor, haul-away, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything fails inside that year, we return and fix it at no charge, and the service call fee is zero. We do not do change orders unless you ask for additional scope, and then it’s a separate written number before we proceed.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for granules collecting in gutters, check for visible curling from the ground, and look for ceiling stains inside the house. What you should not do is walk a pitched roof or start lifting shingles. Los Angeles roofs are steep in the hills, and a fall from even a single-story roof is life-altering. We’ve also seen homeowners void their GAF warranty by nailing through the wrong spot or using the wrong sealant.
If you can see a problem from the ground, call (213) 277-6578. We’ll schedule a proper inspection, tell you what we find in plain language, and hand you a written price before any tools come off the truck.
FAQs

A properly installed Timberline HDZ roof lasts 25 – 30 years in Los Angeles, but real-world lifespan on sun-heavy south slopes is often 18 – 22 years. Poor attic ventilation will cut that shorter. Call (213) 277-6578 to have us check your ventilation along with the shingles.
Yes, if the damage is localized to one or two shingle courses, a ridge cap run, or a flashing point. If the surrounding shingles are brittle or granule-bare, patching becomes a temporary fix. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you have before quoting anything.
A targeted repair is usually done in one day. A full tear-off and replacement takes 3 – 7 days depending on roof size, pitch, and weather. We give you a real arrival window before the job starts, and we stick to it.
We keep common GAF Timberline HDZ colors, ridge cap, adhesives, and underlayment on hand. Less common colors or specialty lines like Camelot II we source through our local Los Angeles supplier, usually within one business day. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll confirm your color match before scheduling.
