CWS Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

CWS fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full perimeter job, depending on linear footage, post depth, and whether we’re working with concrete, hardpan, or the sandy soil you find out toward the Valley. Most CWS fence panels and posts are in our local yard or arrive within two to three days, and we’ll give you a written price before the first post hole is dug. The way most Los Angeles homeowners discover a CWS fence problem is subtle at first: a gate that drags on concrete, a post that leans after a Santa Ana wind event, or powder coating that’s started to bubble along the bottom rail where sprinkler overspray hits it every morning.

We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling contractor, not a CWS dealer or affiliate. That matters because it means we’re not tied to one product line. We install CWS-compatible fence systems and we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone materials elsewhere in the home, so we understand how one manufacturer’s specs fit into the bigger picture of your property.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS fence systems come in a handful of series configurations, and the compatibility question trips up more homeowners than any other. The main split is between CWS’s residential aluminum and steel lines, and their heavier commercial-grade panels. Residential CWS aluminum fencing is typically the 5/8-inch picket and 2-inch rail profile, while steel options run thicker and need different post anchors. Before we touch anything, we check the post caps, gate hinges, and bottom rail stampings for the series number. If the stamping is weathered off, we measure the picket spacing and rail channel dimensions to identify the series accurately.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: CWS gate posts and line posts are not interchangeable. A gate post has a thicker wall and a reinforced hinge mounting block, and swapping in a line post because it looks identical will cause the gate to sag within a year. For OEM versus aftermarket, we’re straightforward about it: if your CWS fence is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, we’ll use OEM parts to keep that warranty intact. If it’s beyond the warranty window, high-quality aftermarket posts and panels with matching powder coat often save 20 to 30 percent with no functional difference. We’ll show you both numbers and let you decide.

Signs Your CWS Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or binds when opening. This is almost always a hinge block that’s pulled loose from the post or a post that’s shifted out of plumb. The underlying cause in Los Angeles is frequent soil movement: clay expands in wet winters and contracts hard in dry summers, slowly working the post loose.
  • Post leans, especially after wind. Santa Ana winds put tremendous lateral pressure on fence systems. A properly set post in concrete stays put; a lean means the footing was too shallow or the concrete cracked and let water in, corroding the base.
  • Powder coating bubbles or flakes near the bottom. This is a Los Angeles lawn irrigation problem as much as a coating problem. Sprinkler overspray leaves mineral deposits that etch the coating, and once moisture gets under it, the aluminum starts to oxidize. The panel loses its finish years before it loses structural strength.
  • Rattling panels or loose rails. CWS panels are held in rail channels with set screws or compression clips. Temperature swings between Los Angeles nights and days cause expansion and contraction, and over several years those fasteners work loose. Left alone, the panel rides against the post and wears grooves into both.
  • Rust streaks from post caps or rails. Aluminum doesn’t rust, but the steel hardware inside it does. If you’re seeing reddish-brown streaks running down from cap screws or hinge bolts, the hardware is corroding and transferring iron oxide onto the aluminum surface.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Full CWS fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620, and here’s what moves the number. The biggest driver is linear footage, but post footing depth matters too: Los Angeles has areas with heavy clay and other areas with decomposed granite, and both require different concrete footing depths for a stable install. Gate openings add cost because of hardware and reinforcement. Powder coat color availability also matters: standard black and bronze are cheapest; custom colors add a premium.

Every price we give is written and itemized before work starts. You’ll see the panel cost, post cost, gate hardware, concrete, and labor listed separately, so there’s no mystery about what you’re paying for. The number we hand you is the number on the invoice. And the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a post shifts or a gate sags within a year of installation, we come back and fix it at no charge. That guarantee is in writing on every job, and it’s the same standard we use on every Kingswell project since 2004.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check before you call. If your gate is dragging, check the hinges visually: are the screws backed out or is the post itself leaning? Look at the bottom rail for sprinkler damage. These observations help us quote the job faster and more accurately. What you shouldn’t do is try to reset a post or rehang a gate yourself. A leaning post means the footing has failed, and digging it out without hitting irrigation lines or underground utilities is a real risk in Los Angeles, where lines run shallow and close to fence lines. Gate work is heavy and spring-loaded; a gate that slips during reinstallation can break a hand or foot.

If you want to know exactly what’s failing and what it costs to fix, call (213) 277-6578. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to your home, and Trevor Nash will personally walk you through what he sees and what he’d do about it. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
