Cambridge Pavers Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambridge Pavers-compatible driveway pavers and matching replacement units across Los Angeles, with most paver replacement jobs running $826 – $2,124 depending on square footage, edge restraint work, and the base repair involved. Most homeowners discover a problem the same way: a paver cracks under a truck tire, a section sinks after heavy rain, or the sand between joints washes out and the surface starts shifting. If you’re looking at a wonky course of pavers right now, here’s what you’re actually dealing with and what it costs to fix properly.

Penhallow Remodeling Los Angeles is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Cambridge Pavers, but we work with their product lines regularly enough to know exactly what holds up under Southern California sun and what doesn’t.

Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavers makes three main paver families you’ll see across Los Angeles driveways: the Ledgestone line (tumbled edges, a more rustic look), the Sherwood series (cleaner lines, tighter joints), and the Maytrx line (a larger-format paver designed to mimic slab stone with fewer joints). Each runs in different thicknesses, and that’s the first compatibility gotcha: a 60mm paver from the Sherwood line is not interchangeable with a 60mm Ledgestone paver. The dimensions look close on paper, but the edge profile and color blend differ enough that a mismatched replacement stands out immediately.

To identify what you have, flip over a loose paver if one’s already out. Cambridge stamps their name and mold number on the underside of most units. If the stamp is worn or hard to read, measure the paver’s length, width, and thickness in millimeters, then match the color blend name, which you’ll usually find on your original order paperwork or the installer’s invoice from when the driveway went in.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Cambridge still manufactures all three of these lines, so OEM is almost always the right call for driveway pavers. Aftermarket “Cambridge-compatible” pavers exist, but the subtle color variation between production runs is already noticeable; a different manufacturer’s blend can look distinctly off, especially under direct Los Angeles sunlight. We order OEM units directly through our supplier network and keep a limited stock of the most common colors in our Los Angeles yard.

Other brands we regularly source for remodeling work include KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, but for driveway pavers, Cambridge is its own ecosystem.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Cracked or split pavers under vehicle weight. This usually means the base layer underneath wasn’t compacted well enough, or the paver itself was laid over a void. Once one cracks, the surrounding pavers start absorbing stress they weren’t designed for, and the failure spreads. In Los Angeles, we see this most often on driveways where the original installer skimped on the aggregate base.
  • Sunken or dipped sections. Water is getting under the pavers and eroding the bedding sand, or the base was never deep enough in the first place. A dip of even half an inch catches a tire differently and accelerates the problem.
  • Joint sand disappearing after every rain. Los Angeles winters may be mild compared to the Northeast, but our rainy season is real. If the sand between your pavers washes out repeatedly, the pavers are slowly migrating. Polymeric sand, properly installed, should lock the joints for years, not months.
  • Pavers shifting or the edge course separating. Edge restraint failure. The plastic or aluminum edging that holds the outside row of pavers in place has broken, shifted, or was never staked correctly. When the edge goes, the entire field starts to move outward, especially on sloped Los Angeles driveways in areas like Mount Washington or Baldwin Hills.
  • White, chalky residue on the paver surface. Efflorescence. It’s not a structural failure, but it tells you water is migrating through the paver body. If it’s widespread, it often means the joint sand is failing and water is sitting under the surface longer than it should.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles driveways, paver replacement work breaks down into three tiers:

  • Spot replacement (1 – 5 pavers): $295 – $590. This covers pulling the broken units, re-leveling the bedding sand underneath, setting matching Cambridge pavers, and re-sanding the joints.
  • Section repair (a 20 – 50 square foot failed area): $826 – $1,650. This includes removing the affected section, repairing or re-compacting the base, reinstalling pavers with new bedding sand, and joint stabilization.
  • Full driveway reset (edge-to-edge re-level and re-sand): $1,650 – $4,130. We pull the pavers, fix underlying base issues, re-set the entire surface, install new polymeric sand, and repair the edge restraint.

What drives the number up or down is base condition and access. If the original base was installed correctly, a spot replacement is quick and clean. If the base failed, the repair is bigger, because putting new pavers over a bad base means you’ll be calling us again in eighteen months. We’re not interested in selling a repair that won’t stay repaired. That’s why we write the price, scope, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise down before any work starts. If our repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Pavers are one of the few home exterior materials where a careful homeowner can handle very small cosmetic fixes. If a single paver in a low-traffic area is cracked and already loose, you can lift it out, check the sand underneath, and reseat it as a temporary measure. But for anything on a driveway that carries vehicle weight, there’s no safe shortcut. The risk isn’t injury here the way it is with high-tension garage springs or electrical work. The risk is a repair that fails in six months because the base problem underneath was never addressed, and that’s not something you can see from the surface. If your pavers are shifting, sinking, or cracking under a car, give us a call at (213) 277-6578. We’ll look at what’s underneath before we tell you what it costs.
