Plant Prefab Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We install Plant Prefab-compatible fence systems throughout Los Angeles, and a typical full installation runs $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, footing work, and the panel series you’re working with. Most homeowners call us after a wind event or a vehicle strike, and we can usually get a crew out within a few days to assess the damage. The discovery almost always starts the same way: a panel that’s leaning, a post that’s cracked at the base, or a gate that suddenly won’t latch.

Plant Prefab’s fence panels are built to tighter dimensional tolerances than what you’ll find at a big-box lumber yard, which means the hardware and post spacing are specific. We keep the common panel types and matching post kits in our Los Angeles inventory, and for anything we don’t stock, we can source it through our usual trade suppliers – usually within a week. The good news: most failures are repairable without replacing the entire run.

Which Plant Prefab Models This Applies To

Plant Prefab’s fence components fall into a few distinct series, and mixing parts between series is where we see owners get into trouble. The panel heights are standardized (typically 4, 6, and 8 feet), but the post profiles differ. Some series use steel posts with welded bracket receivers; others use powder-coated aluminum with a slide-in channel. You can’t swap the brackets between them without the panel sitting loose or the powder coat cracking at the fastener.

The quickest way to identify what you have is to check the post cap or the inside edge of a panel end rail. Plant Prefab stamps a series code there – look for a small engraved letter-number combo like “PPF-6A” or “PPF-8C.” If the stamp is worn off, measure the post width at the face: a 4-inch face usually indicates the steel-post series, while a 3-inch face points to the aluminum channel system. We match OEM parts first because the warranty implications on the rest of the run matter. A quality aftermarket bracket can work in a pinch on the steel series, but for the aluminum slide-in channels, we’ve had better long-term results staying with the OEM profile. Los Angeles sun takes a toll on anything powder-coated, so finish matching matters more here than in coastal cities with milder UV exposure.

Signs Your Plant Prefab Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning past vertical: Usually means the footing was poured too shallow for the panel height. Los Angeles wind events in the foothill neighborhoods – Tujunga, Sunland, parts of Porter Ranch – generate enough lateral force to move a post set in less than 18 inches of concrete.
  • Panels rattling or banging in the wind: The bracket bolts have loosened or the slide-in channel has worn wider. On steel systems, this is a five-minute fix if caught early. If left alone, the panel weight starts ovaling the bolt holes, and you’re looking at replacing brackets.
  • Gate sagging or dragging across the ground: The hinge post has shifted, or the gate frame has twisted. Plant Prefab’s wider gates carry real weight, especially the 6-foot models. A dragging gate eventually bends the hinge pins past reuse.
  • Powder coat peeling in sheets, not just chips: This is a finish adhesion failure, and we see it most in Los Angeles neighborhoods with hard water irrigation overspray – the minerals etch the coating and accelerate the separation. Once it starts peeling, the aluminum underneath begins oxidizing.
  • Concrete around post bases cracking in a star pattern: The post is moving inside the footing, usually from soil expansion. Los Angeles clay soil swells in winter rains and shrinks in summer, and over a few cycles, that movement works the post loose even in a properly poured footing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

For a Plant Prefab fence installation or replacement in Los Angeles, you’re looking at $4,130 to $10,620 all-in. The low end covers a shorter run with straightforward panel replacement and existing footings that are still sound. The high end includes new footing pours, post replacement along the full run, gate re-hang, and possibly section redesign if your property line has elevation changes we need to step the panels over.

What drives the number: linear footage is the obvious one, but so is access. A backyard fence with no side-yard clearance means we’re hand-carrying panels and mixing concrete by wheelbarrow instead of pumping it. Footing depth matters too – Los Angeles hillside properties with slope instability sometimes need deeper, wider pours than flat-lot job sites. Our written quote breaks down parts and labor separately, so you can see exactly what the panels cost and what the installation cost is. Every project gets the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, and if a post shifts or a gate sags within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things worth checking yourself before calling anyone. Walk the fence line and count how many posts are leaning. Check whether panels are just loose in their brackets, or whether the brackets themselves have pulled out of the post. If a single panel is loose and the posts are solid, that’s a hardware fix you can probably handle with basic tools. If multiple posts are moving, or if a gate post has shifted, you’re into footing work, and that’s where DIY goes wrong. Digging out and re-pouring footings on a fence that’s still standing requires bracing the panels so they don’t bind or fall while the concrete sets. Without proper shoring, you can warp panels past the point of reuse, and now a $200 post replacement becomes a $900 panel replacement.

Fence work isn’t as dangerous as, say, overhead door springs, but a falling 6-foot panel will send you to urgent care. If the posts are in concrete and the panels are heavy, call us at (213) 277-6578 and we’ll get you a written quote.
