Belgard Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Home additions and ADUs built with Belgard products in Los Angeles typically run $53,100 – $153,400 for the full project, and we handle everything from foundation to finish. Most homeowners call us because a retaining wall is leaning, pavers have settled into a trip hazard, or a wall block has cracked and the original installer is no longer answering the phone. We match the Belgard product line, write down the price, and get the work done without the runaround.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Belgard dealer or corporate arm. That matters because we’re free to give you a straight answer about what failed and what it costs to fix, rather than steering you toward whatever’s in a warehouse.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes a lot more than pavers. For Los Angeles additions and ADUs, the products we most often match are Belgard Dublin Cobble pavers, Catalina slab pavers, Belgard Weston wall block, and Belgard Diamond Pro segmental retaining wall units. Each line has its own dimensions and weight ratings, and that’s where homeowners get tripped up. A Dublin Cobble paver is 3 different sizes sold together as a system; buying a single replacement size from a big-box store gives you a patch that never quite blends. Weston wall block comes in multiple face finishes too, and the color lot from 2019 will not match a new pallet delivered today.
If you still have the original project invoice or a leftover paver with the product code stamped on the underside, bring it to the first call. We’ll identify the product line, the color, and the closest available match. For Belgard specifically, we usually recommend genuine OEM product over aftermarket lookalikes because the color blending and dimensional tolerances are tighter on the original molds. Aftermarket pavers from a different manufacturer often fade at a different rate and leave a permanent patchwork effect across your patio or driveway.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
Here’s what actually happens on the ground in Los Angeles, especially in neighborhoods with expansive clay soil like the San Fernando Valley and parts of West LA:
- Paver settlement near the foundation line. This usually means the base layer wasn’t compacted in lifts, or drainage water is washing fines out from under the pavers. In Los Angeles clay, the ground also swells and shrinks with winter rain and summer drought. You’ll see a low spot that pools water after a storm.
- Retaining wall leaning or bulging outward. This is almost always drainage failure behind the wall. Water pressure builds up because there’s no gravel backfill or weep hole, and the wall starts to lean. We see this a lot on hillside ADUs in Echo Park and Mount Washington.
- Cracked or chipped wall blocks. Individual Belgard blocks sometimes crack from a point load, a tree root, or a hard impact. If it’s just one or two blocks, it’s a simple swap. If the cracking runs along a whole course, the wall is moving and needs more than a patch.
- Edge restraints poking through or sinking. When the plastic or aluminum edging along a paver driveway or walkway fails, the outside pavers start to drift. This is cheap to fix early and expensive to fix late, because the drifting pavers chew up the base underneath.
- Water pooling against the ADU slab or crawl space. This is a grading and drainage issue, not a paver issue, but it usually shows up first as pavers sinking at the low point. If water is moving toward your foundation, the fix often includes removing pavers, regrading the base, and sometimes adding a channel drain.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a complete home addition or ADU built with Belgard products in Los Angeles, the range is $53,100 – $153,400 depending on square footage, site access, foundation type, and how much wall block or paving is involved. A smaller detached ADU with a modest paver walkway sits near the bottom of that range. A larger addition with a wrapped retaining wall and paver driveway climbs toward the top.
What drives the cost within Los Angeles specifically: hillside sites need caissons or deeper footings; tight backyard access means moving material by hand instead of machine; and some neighborhoods in the canyons require soils reports before a permit is issued. We give you a written price that separates materials, labor, and permits before any work starts. The number we hand you is the number on the final invoice. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, so if anything we installed fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look for pooling water, test a few pavers by stepping on the corners, and snap a photo of the product code if you can find one. What you should not do is start pulling pavers or dismantling a retaining wall. Retaining walls carry thousands of pounds of soil, and taking out the wrong block can send a section down on your hands or feet. Same goes for cutting blocks with a masonry saw. We’ve repaired more than a few DIY wall failures in Highland Park where the homeowner saved $400 on labor and then paid $12,000 to rebuild the wall properly.
If you’re not sure whether you’re looking at a cosmetic issue or a structural one, call (213) 277-6578. We’ll walk through what you’re seeing and tell you honestly whether it needs a pro. Estimate is free.
FAQs

A properly installed Belgard paver patio or driveway in Los Angeles lasts 25 to 40 years before you’d need to pull and re-lay it, and the blocks themselves often outlast that because the concrete doesn’t degrade, the base does. Retaining walls built with adequate drainage have a similar lifespan. Poor drainage can cut a wall’s life to under a decade, which is exactly why we put the drainage details in the written scope.
If the failure is one cracked paver or a couple of chipped wall blocks, we swap individual pieces and you’ll never know the difference if the color lot matches. If the failure is settlement or a leaning wall, the individual block replacement won’t last because the underlying problem is still moving. In that case, the section gets pulled, the base is rebuilt, and the blocks are re-laid. We’ll tell you which one you have before quoting, and the quote separates the two scenarios so you’re not paying for a rebuild when a swap would do.
A small paver repair or a few wall blocks usually takes one day on site. A full paver driveway pull and re-lay runs three to five days. A retaining wall rebuild can run one to two weeks depending on how much soil has to come out and how deep the footings need to go in your Los Angeles hillside. We give you a written arrival window and a finish date before we start, and we hit it.
We don’t keep a warehouse of Belgard product on hand, because the color and product line needed varies too much across Los Angeles jobs. We do work directly with local Belgard distributors and can usually have the product matched and delivered within a few days. If you have the original product code, it goes faster. Nobody in LA stocks every Belgard line and color, so if someone promises you a same-day match, check the pallet sticker yourself.
