Bufftech Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Bufftech fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 for a full project, depending on linear footage, panel style, and whether we’re replacing an existing fence or starting fresh. We stock most Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, and panel hardware on our trucks, and we can usually match your existing series without special-ordering anything. Most homeowners find us after a panel splits at the bottom rail, a post leans after heavy rain, or winds off the 405 corridor flex a section one too many times. The good news: if you know your Bufftech series (and we’ll help you figure that out), the fix is straightforward and doesn’t have to mean tearing out the whole fence line.

Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech has made a few distinct vinyl and composite fence lines over the years, and the part that fits a CertaGrain panel won’t necessarily seat correctly in a Brookhaven or Princeton post. The three series we see most in Los Angeles backyards are CertaGrain (wood-grain texture, often in tan or clay), Brookhaven (a cleaner, more traditional picket profile), and Princeton (a board-on-board look with heavier post caps). If you’re not sure which one you have, look for a small raised manufacturer stamp on the inside face of a post or bottom rail, usually near an end. If that’s worn off, measure the post wall thickness: most Bufftech posts run between 0.135 and 0.150 inches, and the post cap socket will tell you more than the panel will.

One compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: Bufftech changed its post rail bracket design around the mid-2010s, and the older U-channel brackets don’t accept the newer tongue-and-groove rail ends without a small adapter. A homeowner ordering parts online will sometimes get a bracket that’s a quarter-inch off and spend a weekend cursing at it. We keep both bracket styles on hand, and we match OEM when the fence is under warranty, or a quality aftermarket equivalent when it isn’t. Neither approach leaves you with a rail that rattles. Penhallow Remodeling Los Angeles is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Bufftech; we just know their parts well enough to get the match right the first time.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Panel sag at the bottom rail. This almost always means a bottom rail bracket has cracked or popped out of the post slot, usually because the concrete footing settled a half-inch and the panel took the stress. The panel itself is usually fine; the hardware is the victim.
  • Leaning post after a rain. Los Angeles clay soil expands hard when saturated, then contracts in the dry season. A post set in clay without enough concrete collar will walk over time. You’ll see the lean first at gate posts, because the gate’s weight works against the footing every time it swings.
  • Gate drag or latch misalignment. Bufftech gates are lighter than wood, but they still need the hinge post to stay absolutely plumb. If you’re lifting the gate to close it, the hinge post has shifted and the hinge screws are probably starting to strip inside the vinyl post wall.
  • Discoloration or chalky surface on south-facing panels. Los Angeles sun hits vinyl hard, especially panels that face the San Fernando Valley sun with no shade. Fading alone isn’t structural, but when the surface starts to chalk and the top rail begins to flex under heat, the panel has lost enough rigidity that replacing it is the better long-term call than cleaning it.
  • Rattling or flapping panel in moderate wind. Each Bufftech panel should seat firmly into the post route with a bracket holding it. A panel that moves in a 15 mph breeze has lost a bracket or the post route has widened from heat cycling. Left alone, the panel works its way out and becomes a projectile in Santa Ana season.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled laundry and mudroom with a bench, cubbies and painted cabinets

For a Bufftech fence installation or panel replacement in Los Angeles, the installed price typically lands between $4,130 and $10,620. That range covers everything from replacing four or five failed panels with new posts on a modest backyard run, up to a full perimeter installation on a larger lot with a custom gate. What moves the number: total linear footage, whether we’re reusing your existing footings or pouring new ones, the specific Bufftech series you have (CertaGrain carries a premium over the smoother Brookhaven profile), and access to the fence line. If we have to run a wheelbarrow 120 feet through your side yard because there’s no rear access, that labor shows up in the number.

Every job gets a written line-item price before any work starts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor, and the footing work separated, so there’s no mystery about what you’re paying for. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies in writing: if a panel, post, or gate we installed fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Kingswell standard, and it’s the same promise we make on a kitchen remodel.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely check a few things yourself: look for the manufacturer stamp on the post, measure the post wall thickness, and count how many panels are affected. That’s useful information to have before you call anyone. What goes wrong with DIY on Bufftech fences is usually the footing work. The post needs to be set in concrete that extends below the soil line at a specific depth for Los Angeles clay, and if the post isn’t perfectly plumb in both planes before the concrete grabs, you’ve locked in a lean that will only get worse. Pulling a set post out of cured concrete without damaging the post is miserable work, and we’ve replaced more than a few posts that got chewed up with a reciprocating saw by a homeowner who was trying to save a few hundred dollars. If the bracket is just cracked and the post is solid, that’s usually a one-hour fix. If the post has moved, call us at (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a service call.
