Bufftech Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Bufftech-compatible kitchen remodeling hardware across Los Angeles, with full replacement jobs typically running $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope, cabinetry line, and countertop material. If a Bufftech cabinet hinge has failed, a drawer slide binds, or a panel has swollen from moisture, we can usually diagnose it the same week and get the correct part matched to your model. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer that used to glide now catches, a door that sat flush now sags a quarter inch, or a finish that’s bubbling near the sink base where steam and spills collect. You’re not imagining it – that’s the part telling you it’s done.
We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling and repair contractor, not affiliated with Bufftech directly, but we work around their product lines often enough to know which parts are still available and which ones require a workaround. Trevor Nash, our owner, got his start pulling apart kitchen cabinets in Crenshaw bungalows long before he ever quoted a full remodel, so failed hardware isn’t a mystery to us – it’s a Tuesday.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech has shifted its catalog over the years, and the compatibility picture depends on the age of your kitchen. The older Bufftech line, common in Los Angeles homes remodeled between roughly 2005 and 2015, used a 35mm cup hinge with a standard 9mm hinge arm screw pattern. Newer Bufftech cabinetry moved to a soft-close hinge with a 45mm cup and a different mounting plate, which means the old hinge will not swap into the new door bore without an adapter plate or a re-bore. That’s the single most common compatibility gotcha we see: someone orders a “Bufftech hinge” online, it arrives, and the screw holes don’t line up because the series changed.
Here’s how to identify what you have. Open a cabinet door and look at the hinge cup (the round recessed part bored into the door). If the cup measures 35mm across and the hinge arm has two screws at the frame, you’re on the older series. If it’s 45mm with a clip-on mounting plate, it’s the newer soft-close line. Stickers inside the drawer box or on the back of a door panel often carry the model code. Take a photo of both the hinge and any sticker, then call us at (213) 277-6578 and we’ll tell you whether it’s an OEM-order situation or something we carry on the truck. For most Bufftech kitchens in Los Angeles, we recommend OEM hinges and slides because the bore spacing and overlay are specific to the series – aftermarket equivalents exist, but the reveal (the even gap around the door) can end up a few millimeters off, and that’s the kind of detail you notice every time you open the cabinet.
We also service kitchens that mixed in KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry alongside Bufftech pieces, which happens more than you’d think in Los Angeles remodels. The same rig – a replacement door, a new roll-out tray – has to match the original brand or the finish texture won’t line up.

Signs Your Bufftech Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer won’t close without a shove. The slide’s ball bearings have worn flat spots. You’ll feel it as a rough spot mid-travel. The fix is replacing the slide pair before the drawer box itself starts wearing against the cabinet frame.
- Cabinet door drops when open. The hinge cup has stripped from the door bore or the hinge arm has bent. Left alone, the sagging door starts rubbing the adjacent door and chewing up the finish on both.
- MDF panel swelling at the bottom edge. This is the big one in Los Angeles, where we get humidity swings and the occasional leak under the sink. Once the MDF core of a Bufftech door absorbs enough moisture, it never shrinks back – the panel stays puffed. Replacement is the fix, not drying it out.
- Finish bubbling or peeling near the dishwasher or oven. Heat and steam break down the thermofoil or painted surface over years. Small bubbles spread, and once they crack, the substrate (the material under the finished surface) is exposed and gets worse quickly.
- Roll-out tray grinds instead of glides. The nylon wheels on the tray rails crack and disintegrate. You’ll see little white or gray plastic bits in the cabinet floor. The tray still “works” until it doesn’t, then it tips out and dumps your pots.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles homeowners, Bufftech kitchen remodeling replacement work falls into a few clear cost bands. Small hardware swaps – hinges, drawer slides, one replacement door – run $295 to $825 including the part and the service visit. A full cabinet reconfiguration or partial refacing lands between $10,620 and $23,600. A complete Bufftech-compatible kitchen remodel runs $16,520 to $53,100, driven by layout changes, cabinet line, countertop material, and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical. No fixtures, no finish, no surprises added after the fact. Call (213) 277-6578 for an exact written quote.
What changes the number most: moving a sink or range adds MEP work; going from laminate to stone countertops usually means reinforcing the base cabinets; and removing a non-load-bearing wall to open the kitchen is cheaper than most people expect, while touching a load-bearing wall is the opposite. We give you the written price before any work starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise means if something we installed fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing, on every job.

If the issue is a single hinge or a drawer slide, and you’re comfortable with a screwdriver and a tape measure, you can absolutely replace it yourself – provided you buy the correct series part. The danger isn’t really physical here; it’s ordering the wrong 45mm cup for a 35mm bore or stripping the particleboard when the new screws don’t grab. That’s when a $14 hinge turns into a re-bore that needs a jig and patience. One honest caveat: if the failure is moisture-related, like swollen MDF panels or a mushy sink base, throwing new hardware at it hides the real problem. The leak or condensation issue will chew through the replacement, too.
If the failure is structural – a cabinet box separating from the wall, a corner seam splitting, a door that’s delaminating – call us. Those aren’t hardware fixes, and a cabinet coming off the wall with a full load of dishes is a real safety issue. Same goes for anything involving gas lines or electrical if the repair touches the range or under-cabinet wiring. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools – that’s how we work. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing.
FAQs

Quality cabinet hinges and slides in a normal Los Angeles kitchen last 10 to 15 years, though soft-close mechanisms often fail closer to year 8 because the internal dampener is plastic and heat from the oven accelerates wear. Heavy-use drawers – the one with the pots and pans – wear out roughly twice as fast as the utensil drawers.
In most cases the hinge itself is worn out, and repair means replacement. The one exception is a hinge that has simply come loose from the door bore; if the particleboard around the cup is still solid, we can re-seat it with the proper screws or wood filler and get more life out of it. If the bore is stripped, the economical fix is usually a new door or an oversize cup adapter, priced out on the spot.
A hinge or slide swap takes under an hour, including the time to confirm the series match and adjust the reveal. A replacement door or drawer front takes one to two weeks in Los Angeles if the panel needs to be ordered, and a full kitchen remodel runs six to ten weeks depending on scope. We’ll give you a defined arrival window for any visit, and we show up in it.
We carry the common 35mm and 45mm hinge bodies, various mounting plates, and a range of side-mount and under-mount slides on the truck, which covers the majority of Bufftech kitchens we see in Los Angeles. If your kitchen uses something unusual – a face-frame hinge with a specific overlay, or a pull-out with a custom rail – we’ll source the OEM part and give you a written quote before ordering.
