Owens Corning Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Owens Corning roofing replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $9,440 – $23,600 for a full tear-off and install, with targeted repairs falling between $470 and $2,125 depending on the damage. We keep Owens Corning Duration and Oakridge shingles in stock, so a patch job can usually happen within 48 hours of your call, not weeks. Most Los Angeles homeowners find a problem the same way: water staining on a ceiling after the first real rain of the season, a shingle in the yard after a Santa Ana wind event, or granules piling up in the gutters. By the time you see it, the failure has usually been developing for months.
What we see here in Los Angeles often surprises people. Owens Corning shingles are built for sun exposure, but our particular mix of UV intensity, marine-layer moisture cycles, and the occasional hard wind gust from the San Gabriels works on a roof differently than Phoenix heat or Seattle rain alone would. That’s not a knock against the product: it’s a reminder that no shingle lasts forever in this climate, and catching a failing section early saves you a full deck replacement later.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

We work on the two Owens Corning lines most common in Los Angeles: the Duration series (Duration, Duration FLEX, and Duration STORM) and the Oakridge series. If you’re not sure which one you have, the simplest identification is on the shingle itself. Owens Corning prints the product name on the nail line of each shingle. Lift a tab gently and check. Failing that, the packaging originally came with a bundle label, and your original install paperwork from the builder or previous owner will list it. Dimension matters too: Duration shingles are noticeably thicker than Oakridge and run about 13⅛ inches wide, while Oakridge runs closer to 13¼ inches. Close enough to confuse, different enough that mixing them on a patch looks wrong.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing before someone sells you a bundle. Owens Corning discontinued certain color lines in the Oakridge series about five years back, and if your roof has one of those colors, the exact factory match is gone. A quality aftermarket equivalent can get you close, but “close” in direct light on a south-facing slope in Eagle Rock is sometimes a 3-shade difference. In that situation we tell people their two honest options: patch a slightly visible area with the closest match, or start planning a full resurfacing. We’d rather give you that straight answer up front than have you noticing a patch every time you pull into the driveway.

Signs Your Owens Corning Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in your gutters or at downspout bases. Owens Corning shingles shed granules slowly through their life, but a sudden pile means the asphalt is oxidizing and the protective surface is breaking down. In Los Angeles, UV is the usual culprit, especially on west-facing slopes that take the afternoon sun from the 405 to the coast.
- Curling or cupping edges. That’s almost always heat-related. Shingles in the Valley or on unventilated attic spaces cook from both sides, and once the corners lift, wind gets under them. The problem compounds faster than people think.
- Missing shingles after a Santa Ana event. One missing shingle isn’t an emergency, but three or more across a slope tells you the sealant strip is failing. Owens Corning uses a specialized adhesive strip, and once it lets go across a section, the rest of that field is compromised.
- Dark staining on interior ceilings near the top plates of walls. Water travels, so the visible stain is rarely directly under the roof leak. We trace the path back to a cracked pipe boot or worn flashing before we ever touch a shingle.
- Visible nails backing out through shingle tabs. This one’s specific to older roofs and temperature swings. Los Angeles nights cool fast, and repeated expansion-contraction cycles can push fasteners up. That nail head is now a water entry point.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Let’s put real numbers on paper. In Los Angeles, a full Owens Corning roof replacement runs $9,440 to $23,600 depending on square footage, roof pitch, number of stories, and whether we’re replacing the underlayment (we always do) and any damaged decking. For isolated damage, a repair runs $470 to $2,125. That repair price includes matching shingles to the best of our ability, replacing any compromised underlayment at the site, new sealant at any disturbed flashing, and hauling away the old materials. If you have a tile roof with a small patch of Owens Corning underlayment failure, that’s different work entirely: $710 to $2,950 depending on how many tiles have to come off and go back on.
What drives the range up: a steep pitch that requires staging, a two-story home in the Hollywood Hills, decking that’s rotted from years of slow seep, and roof features like skylights or valleys that require custom flashing work. What keeps it lower: a single-story ranch in the South Bay with a simple gable and good attic access. You’ll get a written price before anything starts, and the number on that sheet is the number on the invoice. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s non-negotiable for us. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, which is exactly what it sounds like: if the repair fails within a year, we’re back out to fix it at no charge. We’ve been operating under that standard since 2004.
DIY or Call Us?
What a homeowner can safely check without getting on a ladder: gutter lines for granule buildup, attic sheathing for water staining on a dry day, and missing shingles visible from the ground after a wind event. Those observations help us diagnose faster when you call.
What we’d tell you not to do: walk a two-story roof in tennis shoes, work near a ridge line without staging, or try to reseal a lifted shingle with the wrong adhesive from a big-box shelf. Roofing height work in Los Angeles means fall risk, and in the middle of summer, a roof surface can hit 160 degrees. Surface burns happen faster than people expect. We carry the right Owens Corning-compatible sealant, the matching shingles, and the safety equipment. If you’ve spotted a problem, call (213) 277-6578. Trevor Nash will tell you plainly what it costs before he ever picks up a hammer.
FAQs

In Los Angeles, an Owens Corning Duration roof is realistically a 18-to-22-year roof, not the 25-to-30 you’ll see on a coastal Pacific Northwest home. Our UV load, attic heat, and marine-layer cycles take years off the top end of the warranty. If your roof is at 15 years and showing granule loss, start budgeting for replacement rather than betting on one more patch. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll do a free inspection and give you a written price for any repair or replacement.
Isolated damage, a single missing shingle, one failed flashing point, or a localized leak can absolutely be repaired for $470 to $2,125 in Los Angeles. The line we draw is when the sealant strips have failed across more than roughly a third of a slope, or when the decking underneath shows rot. At that point repair is money spent delaying a replacement that’s coming either way. We’ll show you the issue and tell you which side of that line you’re on. Call (213) 277-6578 to schedule an evaluation.
Most repair jobs are completed in a single visit, four to six hours, including underlayment patching, shingle replacement, flashing reseal, and cleanup. Full replacements in Los Angeles run three to five working days depending on size and pitch. We’ll put the timeline in writing before work begins, and we keep you updated if materials or weather change it. Call (213) 277-6578 for a schedule estimate.
We keep the most common Owens Corning Duration and Oakridge colors in our Los Angeles shop inventory, along with Owens Corning-compatible underlayment and flashing assemblies. If your color is discontinued or uncommon, we source it within 48 hours through our supplier network. Say the word and we’ll confirm availability before you ever sign an estimate. Call (213) 277-6578 and we’ll check stock for your specific product line.
