Wellborn Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Looking for Wellborn home additions and ADU support in Los Angeles? You’re likely holding a set of plans, a failing cabinet line, or a contractor’s quote that doesn’t match the quality you expected. We install and build with Wellborn cabinetry in Los Angeles home additions and ADUs, and typical projects run $53,100 – $153,400 for a full addition, $106,200 – $259,600 for an ADU, and $4,720 – $15,340 for Wellborn cabinet installation alone. Most owners land here because their existing cabinets have warped, delaminated, or simply weren’t built to handle the dry heat and temperature swings we get across the Basin.
Here’s what you need to know about Wellborn in Los Angeles, whether you’re planning an ADU in Sunland-Tujunga or adding a primary suite in Leimert Park. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Wellborn, but we’ve been installing their product lines long enough to know exactly what holds up and what doesn’t.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn runs three primary cabinet lines that affect your home addition or ADU budget differently. The Estate Series sits at the top with full plywood boxes and soft-close everything. The Select Series offers a mid-range all-plywood build with fewer finish options. The Premier Series gives you a more budget-conscious route with furniture-board construction in some components. The model line matters because it dictates whether a failing cabinet gets repaired or replaced.
Compatibility depends on how the original cabinets were spec’d. Wellborn uses a 1/2-inch side panel versus some competitors’ 5/8-inch, which seems minor until you try to retrofit drawer glides from another brand. You’ll want to check the inside of the left-hand cabinet door for a stamped or sticker label. That label gives you the series, the door style code, and sometimes the finish color name. If the label’s gone, we can still identify the line from the hinge spacing and the drawer box construction. Aftermarket hardware generally works fine on Wellborn frames, but the hinge overlay pattern doesn’t always cross over to generic replacements. Stick with OEM or known-compatible hinges for the cleanest fit.

Signs Your Wellborn Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Drawers that stick or wobble on reopening after rain. Southern California humidity swings, especially in canyon-adjacent neighborhoods like Studio City or Sherman Oaks, cause the wood to swell and contract. If drawers bind seasonally, the drawer box or the glide has already started to shift.
- Faces delaminating near the cooktop or dishwasher. Steam and heat cycles pull the thermofoil or finish away from the MDF core. This isn’t a cleaning issue; it’s the substrate failing from the inside out.
- Hinges that sag so the door doesn’t sit flush. Wellborn’s standard overlay hinges hold fine when the box stays square. Once the cabinet box twists, the hinge screws strip and the door drops. That tells us the box itself is out of square.
- Soft-close mechanisms that slam or don’t catch. Wellborn installs Blum or similar branded hardware on their upper lines. If a soft-close hinge stops dampening, the internal piston has failed and it’s a hardware replacement, not an adjustment.
- A musty smell inside the cabinet bases. In Los Angeles, that’s usually a slow leak from the sink drain or the dishwasher supply line that’s been soaking into the particleboard. By the time you smell it, the cabinet box is often compromised and needs replacement sections, not just a wipe-down.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Wellborn cabinet installation in Los Angeles, the installed price typically runs $4,720 – $15,340 depending on the number of boxes, whether you’re replacing a single run or doing a full kitchen in a new ADU, and the series line you choose. A full home addition that includes Wellborn cabinetry in a new kitchen or bath pushes the total job to $53,100 – $153,400, while a complete ADU with Wellborn cabinets runs $106,200 – $259,600 in Los Angeles depending on square footage, foundation, and finish level.
What drives the cabinet-only number: door style, box construction, finish (paint-grade versus stained), drawer count, and whether we’re retrofitting into an existing footprint or working with new framing. Every quote includes the cabinet boxes, doors, drawer fronts, hardware, installation, and disposal of the old cabinets if we’re removing them. Everything’s in writing before we start, with a 365-Day Done Right Promise on the work. If a hinge fails, a drawer binds, or a soft-close stops catching, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet work isn’t dangerous like electrical or garage springs, but it goes wrong quietly and expensively. You can check the label inside your door, measure the opening width and height, and take photos of the failing hardware. That’s useful information when you call. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling hinges and rebuilding drawer boxes if the cabinet box itself has swollen, split, or lost its square. You’ll spend a weekend fighting a frame that was never coming back, and you’ll still need new cabinets at the end of it.
If the damage is a single hinge or a loose drawer glide, that’s a repair. If the box is compromised, you’re in replacement territory. Either way, give us a call at (213) 277-6578. I’d rather give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
FAQs

Wellborn cabinets in Los Angeles typically last 15 to 25 years when installed correctly. The biggest killers in our climate are moisture intrusion from plumbing leaks and unvented steam from cooking, not normal wear.
Yes, if the cabinet box is square and dry, we can replace hinges, glides, door fronts, and drawer boxes without a full reinstall. If the box has absorbed water or twisted, repair becomes more expensive than replacing the run, and we’ll tell you that plainly.
A single-run replacement typically takes 2 to 3 days on site. A full kitchen in a new addition or ADU runs 5 to 7 working days depending on cabinet count, finish, and whether we’re coordinating with countertop templating. You’ll get a written schedule before we start, and a real arrival window, not a four-hour guess.
We keep common Wellborn-compatible hinges, soft-close glides, drawer box components, and touch-up finishes on the truck for same-day fixes. For full cabinet boxes or custom door styles, we order directly through authorized supply channels. If you’re working with KraftMaid, Cambria, or Silestone elsewhere in the project, we can coordinate those as well. Call (213) 277-6578 for an exact quote, and we’ll tell you what we can do before we ever set foot on site.
